Scope of Practice

Bodywork (Massage Therapy) is a profession in which the practitioner applies manual techniques. It may apply adjunctive therapies with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the client. Massage Therapists do not diagnose or prescribe for medical conditions nor are they allowed to provide treatment for a specific condition without supervision of a doctor. A licensed massage therapist is required to refer for diagnosis and to follow recommendations of a physician.

Medical Conditions

It is the responsibility of the client to inform of any current medical treatment and to provide written permission from the physician, chiropractor, physical therapist, etc. that the massage may be continued. The client must also keep the yoga instructor/bodyworker informed of any changes in health conditions.

Needs + Boundaries

Pressure, temperature, music, time spent on an area of the body, may all be adjusted upon request

It is the choice of the client to undress to their level of comfort, refuse any massage modalities, and end the massage at any time

The client will always be draped and only the area being treated will be uncovered

The client will be kept informed of the area/s to be massaged

Emotional response to massage may occur. Should this take place, it is okay to express feelings – a safe and nonjudgmental environment is provided – or you may request privacy and end the session

A massage therapist may end the massage at any time

Confidentiality + Conversation

Discussion between a practitioner and client is confidential. The client may or may not choose to talk during the session. Topics of discussion that are religious, political, private and/or sexual in nature are not acceptable during massage.

Yoga and Bodywork as a Profession

Under no circumstances, is a therapeutic yoga or bodywork session associated with sexual touch/massage, ever.

Any comments, suggestions and/or behaviors that are deemed inappropriate by the therapist will be met with an immediate termination of the session and a charge for the full appointment.

As a Yoga Instructor and Bodyworker, licensed by the State of Illinois, the services provided are upheld with integrity, professionalism and respect for clients and the practitioner.
